The scarcity of food and water resources drives the individual into a fundamental biological dilemma. Natural selection dictates that the individual directs limited resources primarily to “loved ones” who carry their genetic copies. However, a resource allocation based solely on biological ties is insufficient to maintain the system’s order. If these loved ones do not possess the methodological knowledge necessary for the system’s continuity, this choice serves a collective extinction in the long run.

The first evolution of survival strategy is to transition from “protecting loved ones” to “equipping loved ones.” The true strength of a community lies in its ability to synchronize emotional bonds with technical skills. It is imperative that our loved ones become functional units rather than mere genetic carriers. The integration of non-kin but talented strangers into the system is a systemic necessity rather than an emotional preference.

Ethics-based societies will encounter the pragmatic aggression of barbaric communities in times of crisis. Barbarism is the manifestation of meritlessness and short-term predation. If the humanist aspect of a talented society contains an unprepared naivety, it will mark their evolutionary end. However, the breaking point here is not ethics itself, but the level of preparation and merit behind it.

Societies that prioritize a lack of merit (loyalty, nepotism, incompetence) are structurally condemned to become barbaric. This is because meritless systems exclude the intelligence that would utilize limited resources with maximum efficiency and instead dissipate energy into internal conflicts. The fate of these societies is clear even before the crisis deepens. Conversely, societies that prioritize meritocracy will have simulated the crisis using scientific data and, anticipating the barbarian’s aggression, will have constructed the technological superiority to neutralize such an attack. The power to change the outcome resides not just in being “ethical,” but in being “ethical and prepared.” A meritocratic society manages the inevitable conclusion of a crisis not as an extinction, but as a phase transition.

In the evolutionary process, continuity of the lineage is of secondary importance compared to continuity of information. What survives in the world of the future will not merely be a specific DNA sequence, but the cumulative civilization heritage that DNA carries and develops. The ultimate goal is the transmission of knowledge, skill, and ethical awareness to the next generation. In this context, choices must be made not with emotional vulnerability, but with the responsibility of building the safest harbor for information. Merit is the foundation stone of this harbor; barbarism is the inevitable storm of shallow waters.

Future climatic and environmental projections indicate that the carrying capacity of the biosphere will decrease at a non-linear rate.
